  Event Title: Human Trafficking – A Public Health Issue

  Event Date: Friday, May 3, 2024

  Description: Trafficking is a public health issue that requires a public health approach to prevention and response. Each of the essential public health services as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intersect with the prevention of, and community response to, human trafficking and other forms of violence prevention.

  Speakers: Sara Gadd is the Human Trafficking Program Manager for Ascension St. John. In this role she manages the Ascension St. John Human Trafficking Education and Response Program to train healthcare providers to identify and respond to the needs of victims of human trafficking. Ms. Gadd is also responsible for coordinating ongoing awareness and education opportunities in the community and collaborating with law enforcement and other agencies that battle human trafficking locally and in the United States.  She is the chair of the Oklahoma Coalition Against Human Trafficking (OCAT) in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area.

  Previously, Ms. Gadd worked for the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office for 13 years. As a civilian employee she worked in many different areas and has spent the last seven years teaching Human Trafficking courses to deputies and various other first responders and law enforcement agencies. Currently Ms. Gadd is a volunteer Chaplain for the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office and is a member of the Sheriff’s Office Critical Incident/Peer Support team. 

  Sara holds a Master of Arts Degree in Human Services: Marriage and Family, A Master of Arts Degree in Theological Studies, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Organizational/Interpersonal Communications. In 2012 she completed her Crime and Intelligence Analyst Certification

  Continuing Education: Up to 1 hour CPH, CHES/MCHES, and OK LSW are available from this webinar. Attendees seeking continuing education or certificates of attendance must request their credits from OPHA through this linked survey (https://forms.gle/PjXFU7pYfNMFEmzr5) within two weeks of the event.

  Learning Areas: Assessment of needs and capacity; Advocacy and policy

  Learning Objectives:

  • Mobilize community partnerships and action to identify and solve health problems.
  • Inform, educate, and empower people about health issues.
  • Promote audience-specific social marketing messages to reduce risk for recruitment into trafficking, increase understanding of the health impact of exploitation, and promote help-seeking behavior.

  Cost of Continuing Education from OPHA

  OPHA anticipates requiring a nominal to non-OPHA members per continuing education credit/unit/contact hour at time of registration beginning spring 2024. Date and fee TBA.

  OPHA members pay no cost to attend and receive CE credits provided by OPHA. OPHA provides continuing education to Oklahoma CHWs at no cost - thank you for your work improving Oklahoma's communities!

  CE Attendance & Evaluation Policy

  OPHA offers professional development opportunities and pursues approvals from credentialing bodies to offer continuing education. OPHA strives to meet the standards and competencies of credentialing agencies, and therefore attendance at an OPHA CE event does not guarantee credit. CE-seeking attendees must complete OPHA's Attendance & Evaluation Survey, provided at the conclusion of the event, so that OPHA's Continuing Education Committee can ensure attendance, demonstrated learning, and provide requested CE event certificates to attendees on a quarterly basis. CE credits are ultimately awarded to participant by credentialing agency/body upon event and survey completion and the attendee reporting our provided activities.
